FROGS’ PORN
At the end of March in an alley by a house in Mountsorrel about a 100 metres from the River Soar it was time for froggy love. Not a pond in sight
MEANWHILE CLOSE TO THE BANKS OF THE RIVER SOAR NEAR MOUNTSORREL LOCK
A blackbird’s nest built in a wood store just two feet off the ground.
The first egg was laid on 5th April. The above photo was taken on the 6th April. Two more eggs were laid on the 7th and 8th April.
On the 21st April there were 4 eggs and by the 22nd three chicks had hatched.
On the 26th April there were three 5 day old chicks with no sign of the fourth egg
On 3rd May, now 11 days old, they only just fitted in the nest and the flight feathers have developed. They were still there on the morning of 5th May, but later that day they had left the nest, leaving only the fourth egg, which never hatched out.
