At the western side of the village are three linked wildlife areas; Mountsorrel Common, Buddon Wood Farm Path, and Centenary Wood. The Common is heavily overgrown and subject to some vandalism, but remains an interesting and long established habitat. Buddon Wood Farm Path, a new permissive path opened up by Lafarge (now TARMAC), and the path through Centenary Wood and the adjacent new woodland are developing areas that will in the long term be of great benefit to wildlife and the village. I live on Willow Grove and love walking around the buddon wood etc. and have spent a lot of time photographing wild life, wild flowers and trees. I am however very upset by the damage being done to the area between the top of Wood Lane and Wood Lane by lads and men on both mountain and motor bikes. I have seen them digging out dips and putting up ramps on many of the paths then racing around undermining tree roots damaging the trees themselves and killing off the plants. They seem to think they have a right to do this and do not care about the damage caused. I know the quarry owners of the time put the huge stones around the edges to stop this type of entry but these have now been breached. Is there anything that can be done to allow the area to recover? Or do we have to put up with there behaviour and the damage coursed?
