The Mountsorrel Townswomen’s Guild recorded the transcriptions on the gravestones in St Peter’s churchyard in 2002. However because the churchyard was so overgrown it was only possible to access and record details of 53 gravestones.
Between 2010 and 2014 members of the Mountsorrel Heritage Group have cleared the undergrowth, and where necessary straightened and secured the gravestones, and generally tidied up the churchyard. Details of 72 of the 76 gravestones have been recorded. The other four are blank or unreadable.
This plan,by Jodie Foster, aged 10,shows the disposition of the gravestones in St Peter’s churchyard and should be used in conjunction with the table below

The large oak tree in the churchyard was planted in 1897 on the occasion of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. In 1935 it was said to be the only oak tree in the village,’and mounted guard over ten crosses taken from the graves of some of the boys we lost in France’. These were presumably where the rose bed is now.
All the gravestones, except for four, are placed around the walls of the churchyard
This is the only photograph we have of the churchyard before they were moved.
It was donated to the MHG by Marion Vincent MBE
