Stag & Pheasant (previously Prince of Wales), Leicester Road, Mountsorrel in August 2013 with Tesco hoardings

Site of Stag & Pheasant pub on Leicester Road, Mountsorrel in August 2013. Tesco acquired the site in 2013 to establish a local shop, but opposition and objections have held up the development.
Previously, the Stag & Pheasant was called The Prince of Wales. The original “Stag & Pheasant” was on the other side of Leicester Road, next door to the King William IV.

  1. Hello, just been to the heritage centre and saw a photo of what I thought was my daughters house. However on comparing it with a current photo I see it was nt. Her house is a three story one near the old pub on the corner by the MMC. It was originally two houses ftom an old photo. They were told it might have been a pub previously. No. 113.Leicester Rd.
Would you have any information on this property?? Thanks

  2. Hello Elaine,
We have no evidence it was ever a pub. We can follow the occupants back to 1841 in the censuses. It was once a well known barbers shop run by Reg Shuttlewood. If you have a look at the post on the website about South End shpos you can read a bit more about Reg.
