The Court of Pie Powder was a special court which sat in medieval times during fairs and markets. The purpose of the court was to settle disputes between merchants and customers as well as dealing with acts of theft and violence.
Prior to the outbreak of war Mountsorrel men had been serving as volunteers with both the Leicestershire Regiment as Territorial soldiers and with the Leicestershire Yeomanry. With war declared they moved to their war stations.

Mountsorrel is not listed in the Domesday Survey of 1086, and there is no evidence that it existed before the arrival of the Normans. The first recorded mention of Mountsorrel is in about 1148, in a charter made between the Earl of Chester and the Earl Leicester.
In 1874 on the June 23rd, a scheme agreed by the charity commission, proposed uniting four Mountsorrel charities. These were Richard Nidd’s Charity, the Consolidated Charities, Thomas Statham’s Charity and Joseph Danvers’ Charity.
