When the Alvis factory in Coventry was bombed in 1940, its workforce was transferred to Mountsorrel to work at the Linkfield Road premises of Clarke’s Boxes.The factory was requisitioned by the government and box manufacturing moved to Rothley and Shepshed for the duration.

Mountsorrel’s Knight, William Marshall
The Court of Pie Powder was a special court which sat in medieval times during fairs and markets. The purpose of the court was to settle disputes between merchants and customers as well as dealing with acts of theft and violence.
Prior to the outbreak of war Mountsorrel men had been serving as volunteers with both the Leicestershire Regiment as Territorial soldiers and with the Leicestershire Yeomanry. With war declared they moved to their war stations.
